IR35 changes cancelled. How does the latest announcement affect you?

double-u-turn-2

What IR35 changes were announced on Monday 17th October 2022?

On Monday 17th October 2022 the new Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, announced that he intends to cancel the repeal of the Off-payroll working reforms.

He has chosen to scrap the plans to repeal the Off-payroll IR35 Reforms, which Kwasi Kwarteng previously announced in his mini-budget on 23rd September 2022. This means that the responsibility for assessing the employment status of contractors remains with the end hirer and will not revert back to the contractor come April 2023.

For our clients, this means it is (back to) business as usual.

Hiring firms: What does the cancellation mean for you?

If you have a compliance process, you will continue as if nothing has changed. It remains your responsibility to assess your contractors' status and ensure you have a robust compliance process in place.

As always, we will continue to keep our clients up to date with all aspects of IR35 so please look out for our webinars and newsletters. In the meantime, it is business as usual.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of this in more detail, please contact your account manager.

Contractors: What does the cancellation mean for you?

If you work for a medium or large company then they will continue to assess your status for you.

If you work with a small company that is exempt from the rules then you will still need to assess your own status. If you need help with this please visit our website for more information.
